Creating natural habitats to increase bio-diversity.

Warble began with a simple yet profound inspiration: the bird-filled haven of our founder’s grandmother’s garden. Growing up, this garden was like a scene from a storybook, teeming with life and the constant melody of songbirds. Years later, as our founder Phil set out to rewild his own suburban garden, he encountered a frustrating issue - many of the nest boxes he carefully placed remained unoccupied. This led to an important realisation: while plenty of nest boxes were available, most failed to attract birds, as they lacked the natural features that truly make birds feel at home.

Using his experience as a product designer, Phil embarked on a journey to create bird homes that went beyond mere “boxes.” Warble was born from a commitment to crafting bird homes that echo natural nesting sites and offer a genuine sanctuary for birds. Each product is thoughtfully designed using recycled wood and live-edge panels that mimic tree hollows, making birds feel as if they’re in their natural environment. By blending scientific research with traditional craftsmanship, Warble’s products not only appeal to our feathered friends but also add an authentic touch of nature to gardens.

From Concept to Production

The second half of Warble’s story is about craftsmanship and resilience. Abdul, an Afghan refugee, has become a key part of Warble's journey. Back in Afghanistan, Abdul worked alongside the British Army, leading local teams to maintain their camps. When the Taliban regained control, he and his family faced immediate danger. With their lives at risk, Abdul and his family were given only an hour to make it to the airport and board a British transport plane, securing some of the last available seats. Arriving in the UK, they felt both immense relief and the weight of starting over.

Driven by a determination to provide for his wife and four children, Abdul set out to learn English, build friendships and establish a livelihood. Phil saw in Abdul the same dedication that fuels Warble’s mission, and together they began crafting each bird home with care and attention. Abdul now handcrafts every Warble bird home from a small workshop ensuring that each detail, from the live-edge timber to the precise dimensions, reflects Warble’s commitment to quality and conservation.

Abdul’s journey mirrors Warble’s ethos: resilience, hope and the pursuit of a meaningful connection with nature. Each bird home that leaves Abdul’s workshop is not only a sanctuary for birds but a symbol of strength and dedication - a product crafted with the spirit of two lives intertwined by a shared purpose. Through Abdul’s skillful craftsmanship, Warble is able to bring these unique bird homes to more customers, helping to rewild gardens across the UK and revive songbird populations.

Ethical consumerism

By purchasing a Warble bird home, you're making a meaningful impact on multiple fronts. You’re supporting Abdul, a dedicated craftsman and Afghan refugee who risked his life to assist British forces and now seeks to build a life for his family through honest, skilled work in the UK. You’re also supporting the environment, as each Warble bird home is crafted from reclaimed timber, giving new life to wood that would otherwise be wasted. In doing so, you're helping preserve biodiversity by providing safe, natural habitats for Britain’s declining songbird populations to raise their young. Additionally, the reclaimed timber comes predominantly from the Oxford Wood Recycling Project, an organisation that empowers disadvantaged individuals by offering employment and skills development. With every Warble bird home you’re investing in a product with purpose - supporting people, nature and sustainable practices.
